About the Event
James has been an active performer/educator and composer for more than 20 years. After returning to New York to study with  jazz legends Donald Byrd, Jimmy Heath and the late Sir Roland Hanna, James was signed to the CATS PAW label where he released "RHYTHM ROOM BLUE" which received favorable reviews from the Jazz Times. After years of freelancing in different groups, James decided to return to his true love-writing and performing original music. In August of 2013, he released Follow the Dream which once again featured his original material. James is also a CarolBrass performing artist as well as a Berglund Instruments Artist performing on the newly designed Electronic Valve Instrument known as theNuEVI.
In addition to many trumpet and flugelhorn performances, Ingenito is one of a handful of players around the world that play the Electronic Valve Instrument {EVI}. Capable of a wide variety of sounds, it is a wind-powered synthesizer that is loosely based on the trumpet. "It allows me to express myself in a different way than my trumpet or flugelhorn", he says, "but because of its unique appearance, I get a lot of curious looks from the audience!" Ingenito has been a Band Director in the Island Trees School District for 20 years. He splits his time as Band Director and Jazz Educator/Clinician serving as Vice President of  Nassau Music Educators Association in charge of Jazz studies. He has given clinics and performances at local schools as well Colleges such as The Berklee School of Music. James is also a regular performer/clinician at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California.  James holds both Bachelors and Master Degrees in Jazz Performance having studied and performed with: Donald Byrd, Cecil Bridgewater, Jimmy Heath, Sir Roland Hanna, Leon Merian, Dave Liebman, Chris Vadala,  Dr. Tim Walters, to name a few.
